Which servers does NaviStream work with?
Navidrome, and other servers that implement the Subsonic API. NaviStream is developed and tested against Navidrome, and uses OpenSubsonic extensions such as lyrics where the server offers them.
What do I type as the server address?
The address you use to reach your server in a browser, such as 192.168.1.20:4533 or music.example.com. You can leave off http:// or https:// and NaviStream will try both, starting with the one that usually fits: plain http for a home network address, https for a public name.
How do I make it work both at home and away?
Open Advanced options when adding the server and fill in the second address. Put the home network address in one field and the internet address in the other; it does not matter which. NaviStream tells them apart and switches between them as your network changes.
It connects at home but not when I am out.
Your internet address is not reachable, or its certificate is not valid. Try the address in Safari on cellular data. If Safari cannot load your server’s web page, NaviStream cannot reach it either; check your reverse proxy, port forwarding and certificate. Downloaded music keeps playing in the meantime.
Why are my downloads waiting?
Downloads wait for Wi-Fi by default, so they never use your mobile data. Join Wi-Fi, or allow cellular downloads in Settings within the app. Interrupted downloads resume on their own; transcoded ones start again from the beginning, because the server builds them on the fly.
Why are there gaps between some songs?
Gapless playback applies to downloaded music. Streamed queues come very close, but are not joined on the sample. AAC downloads cannot be gapless either, because that format does not record the encoder delay that gapless joining needs. Download in the original format (FLAC, ALAC, MP3) for seamless albums and mixes.
AAC plays but I hear nothing.
Navidrome versions released before the fix for its AAC transcoding profile produce silent output. Update Navidrome to the latest release.
Why does it ask for local network access?
To reach a server on your home network, and to find an Onkyo or Integra receiver for volume control. Nothing leaves your network. If you said no, turn it on in the Settings app, under Privacy and then Local Network.
Apple TV asked for my password again.
tvOS does not promise that saved passwords survive, so the Apple TV app may occasionally ask you to enter yours again. This is expected and nothing is wrong with your server.
How do I set up the Apple Watch app?
Add your server on the iPhone first. With the watch paired and the NaviStream watch app installed, the phone sends the server details across. Then download albums or playlists to the watch and listen with Bluetooth headphones, with or without the phone.
